Before I get all negative lemme give Jones a HUGE hi-5. Dude had ice in his veins and got a much deserved W. Great job kid! Now...on to the stuff that bugged me about this win.
It's almost comical how many times this season the Kings have outplayed the opponent for most of/the whole game and can't win outright because of a lack of scoring. The paltry 16.7% power-play is a perfect example why. When you have had 102 chances...but only bury 17...there is a huge problem. Especially when you go 0-6 each against teams that are 26th (Cal) and 19th (Anh) on the PK. Now, on the bright side, on the first PP tonight the Kings looked great! They were actually moving out there and they kept the puck in the zone for at least 45 seconds before it was cleared...probably longer. Not only did they have possession, they were winning all of the battles and got off a bunch of shots. 6 of them on net I believe. The Ducks looked totally confused out there because of the constant rotation (and pinching in) of the Kings defenders. It was an awesome cycle. It seemed that only crappy luck was the reason that there wasn't a goal scored there. Then the second PP hit. Jeeze. It reminded me me why they never score. Same team...same players...totally different method. It's freaking maddening!
Another thing is this...Getzlaf scored. Perry scored. Did you see from where? RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE NET! And they weren't just standing there and waiting, they crashed/drove to the net. How did the Kings score? A admittedly great [Carter] shot from a [Getzlaf] gift of a give-away, and Hiller bobbled Brown's shot. Not trying to take anything away from Carter and Brown, because at least they scored...but I'm just saying...it seems to me that the guys on THAT top line seem to find ways to get there but the Kings seem content to take 40 shots from the outside of the circles. NOT gonna score much like that, which is why the Kings have scored 2 or less regulation goals in 9 of the last 12 games.
I know I should enjoy the wins, but it's very hard to do when the offense continually frustrates me. Now, the PK was awesome, especially in overtime...but this lack of scoring is killing me. Sutter said it's 2-3 goal games in the NHL these days...but more often than not...the Kings end up with 2. And with all of the offensive talent on this team...it's stupid, and for the power-play to be THIS bad...it SHOULD be unacceptable.
