I love Clifford, but see him as an expendable piece. The Kings are loaded with 4th line depth right now. If the right player is available and Clifford is the guy we need to send back I wouldn't complain.

Leopold is a depth/injury acquisition at best. No way you move a kid like Clifford for a guy like that.
Stewart (who is already 28) or Richardson make more sense, but I wouldn't be shocked if it was just a pick or two going the other way.
If this even happens.
I know the name, but can't say I know his game, so can't say if Clifford is too much. I would rather keep Clifford though.
Yeah, you can. Clifford is basically a bit better than a 2nd round pick, but not much more. He's never going to be a top 6 forward. Nolan, King, and even Stewart seem to have more upside.
Leopold has been moved several times for a 2nd rounder, sometimes with prospects added.
If the rumors going around are sound, then the price for defense is sky high.
I would not be shocked if its a guy like Clifford and a 2nd round pick for Leopold.
You could also easily substitute any of the other 4 guys fighting it out for bottom 6 time on the wing (Nolan/King/Richardson/Stewart).

at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.

Not sure why the Kings would want Leopold. Top six is set, with DD2 at No. 7 doing a perfectly reasonable job in that capacity. Experienced vet as insurance in case of injury? Seems like kind of a pricey insurance policy, especially if it comes at a price of Clifford +.
Willie Mitchell had knee surgery during lockout
There will be more injuries and we're on another cup run. A 48 game season is not the time for cups of coffee with the defending champs. If you can do something you go for it.
I understand what you're saying, Bird, but I just don't see it.
Leopold is 32 and we all know what to expect from him.
Clifford is 22 and still has an high amount of potential.
I realize that at this point in his career, Clifford isn't worth as much to the team right here and now, but a trade like that doesn't seem to me to be very Lombardi-esque, given his potential and Leopold's lack thereof.
I also just think it would be a bad trade.
Richardson or the newly acquired Stewart? Yeah, ok. Clifford? No.
Leopold... well.. the definition of mediocre,,
think Derek Morris
Name recognition... not a whole lot of game recognition.
If he is cheap.. and we are going to have a hole... meh.. why not...
I say that not being sold on what Drewiskie brings and with Mitchells spot already being paired with Voynov... I can see the desire to put a vet (even a mediocre one) into that spot as opposed to a callup, specially with a mini season...
