We do have a huge hole - for example if Mitchell is going to be gone for another 6 to 8 weeks thats a good chucnk of the season gone

We can either play DD2 and see what happens or try for some help, this year is bit like a sprint not a marathon, I foresee more teams making moves especially if they go on a losing streak early on in the year

I don't want to give up Clifford or Lewis but Richardson is that little bit older, closer to his ceiling and did cost us a 2nd rounder when we got him (I think) so in terms of value he is pretty close

realistically though we're talking about 3-4 pair minutes and prime PK time. 20 minute plus D-men always in very high demand, particularly those on 1 year deals... DD2 and Slava in that slot. Definitely some tire kicking that needs to go down by DL but it's likely to cost more than Cliffy and picks.

Part of me thinks that Stewart actually does have huge potential, but obviously its a gamble. The guy has skills, but for whatever reason hasn't put it all together. Like, he made it, and then sort of relaxed or has never really put in the work to be great at this level. Chances are, he won't turn into anything here, but if somebody here can push the right buttons, he could potentially find another level. He's not going to turn into an all star or anything, but he's skilled and young enough that his career is not yet behind him.

Buffalo has 8 or 9 legitimate candidates for full time defense duty. Leopold makes the most sense for them to move because he has the most value in return. They have a smallish roster, even with Ott and John
Scott added. They don't need anymore undersized tweeners, they want muscle that can play a regular shift. They are in a defense-starved market and can demand more than even value.

The Kings can afford to move Clifford. If it wasn't for the multilple bell-ringings, maybe not, but you gotta figure that in to the equation. Remember, not only do you have King, Nolan and Stewart adding muscle to the bottom six, you have Andy Andreoff heading up that same road. Simmonds seemed invaluable a couple years ago too. Plus a Clifford - Ott - Kaleta line would be a lot of fun to dvr.

When Kopitar is back, the Kings will have 10 top-9 forwards, with one of those guys fighitng it out with Clifford/Stewart/Nolan/Fraser/Richardson for 4th line duties. Nice problem to have, but one of those guys won't be on the roster. You could send Nolan down, or waive Stewart, but that still leaves a quality forward sitting on the bench with a weakness on the blueline.
