If you have a kid playing youth hockey "So Your Son Wants to Play in the NHL" and "So You Want to Play in the NHL" by Dan and Jay Blysma would be pretty good reads for both of you

This is widely considered the best hockey book ever. Ken Dryden is a superb writer.
Amazon.com: The Game (0723812833559): Ken Dryden: Books

Also, for more of a funny read you should try:
Amazon.com: Open Net: A Professional Amateur in the World of Big-Time Hockey (9781599218069): George Plimpton: Books

George Plimpton did a series of books where he suited up for profesional sports teams and wrote about the experience.

Couldn't agree more with the both of these. Two completely opposite types of books, but both will stick with you forever.

I have some mammoth of a book (Can't think of the title) about the rivalry between the Leafs and Canadiens in the 50's and 60's.

"Cold War" another great book. It's more of a coffee table book, but the pictures alone make this a great book.

The Game is an awesome choice.

If you want to read an interesting book about how the NHL owners and Alan Eagleson really screwed over the players when Eagleson was head of the NHLPA.

Amazon.com: Game Misconduct: Alan Eagleson and the Corruption of Hockey (9781551990187): Russ Conway: Books
