The Game is the best, especially if you ever played the game.
The Boys of Winter about the 1980 US Olympic hockey team is a great read.
and while not a hockey book, Unbroken - The Louis Zamperini story about the USC track star who floated in the Pacific for 40 days on a raft only to be captured by the Japanses during WWII is a GREAT book. I am just re-reading and I can not stand USC. But this guy is a STUD!!! Grew up in Torrance, so a South Bay connection as well
A couple of "smaller" hockey books I really enjoyed:
Ice Time: A Tale of Fathers, Sons, and Hometown Heroes. Jay Atkinson - 25 years after playing there, the author returns to his high school as an assistant hockey coach.
They Don't Play Hockey in Heaven: A Dream, A Team, and My Comeback Season. Ken Baker - On playing for the Bakersfield Condors in the WCHL. Ken's a great guy who can be seen with his family around TSC.

To those who have read The Code: I did find some of it interesting, and some of the anecdotes from former players were enjoyable, but didn't you find that he could have written all the important content in about 2 pages and the rest was just filler? I feel like every page was just addressing the same point over and over in a slightly different way. I'd be interested in someone's take on it who has never played or watched hockey before, though I know I'm not going to find that here...

I bought "Tough Guy" when it came out and found it to be a very good read. I have tons of respect for bob probert and all the demons he overcame in his life. It's very honest as the man put everything on the table until his untimely passing before it's completion.
