Default Hockey's Future article about Joel Lowry

Despite not having the WHL option as a 17-year-old, Joel Lowry has come into his own at Cornell since being drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in 2011.

“I was more of a late developer so college was the better route for me over juniors,” Lowry said. “I didn’t really have the WHL option when I was 17-years-old. It just took me a little bit to get my feet wet.”

Sounds like he will fit perfectly on the third line in a few years

that's great and all, but what I really want to see is a bigger version of the monkey sword fight

I liken Lowry to Tyler Kennedy or Brad Richardson. Great speed, puck seems to find them, but struggles with scoring.

In terms of his role, I wouldn't expect more than a 13th forward or 4th line energy player.

What is important to note here is that he is developing skills at the development camp. The Kings have come a long long way in development. They keep tabs on the plays and walk them through, patiently.

I would imagine that this kid will get advice on exactly when he should come out of college and move on to the ECHL or AHL.

The communication and training of these young kids and prospects has been phenomenal.
