But here we are talking about which cup run was better. Think about that: WHICH CUP RUN WAS BETTER?! . After we lost to the sharks to clinch the 8th playoff position in 2012, knowing we had to play the best team in the league (on paper) would you have believed that we would have the kings' names etched on the cup twice in 2 years time? After decades of watching the kings struggle with only a handful of highlights, these are definitely the glory days of the Kings and they aren't even in their prime.

so funny, and true, as Kings fans getting to ask ourselves which cup run was better we would have thought we needed to pinch ourselves...truly a question I never thought I would be able to even entertain!

Proud that DL, DS, and all the players and organizational staff from both runs are part of the team that I have the pleasure of rooting for!

2012: I can't think of a better feeling than what I felt watching the Kings clinch their first cup. It isn't fair to compare anything to that year. That team was dead to rights, and then boom. DL brings in Sutter, trades for Carter, and there we were with a couple of kids in King and Nolan. Up 3-0 to VAN? The same VAN team that eliminated us on our home ice 2 years earlier? The President Trophy winners nonetheless?

Then there we were up 3-0 on STL. That was a great team we beat...errrr swept. Yes swept. Oh and Mike Smith? We were running into the second hottest goaltender in the league. Up 3-0. And how sweet was it putting PHX away on the road on an OT goal to send us to the SCF? And those post game quotes? That was a fun series.

VS. New Jersey and the East. Kovalchuk. Quick vs. Martin Brodeur. Henrique was on fire. Up 3-0 again. The countdown. The accumulation of our rebuild. Watching these kids mature into champions. There is nothing like watching YOUR team grow, from scratch, into something as surreal and dominating as that year.

    But wow...

If anything can rival that, it was this year. THIS FRICKIN RUN RIGHT HERE!!!! Some of you said it better. But beating San Jose, Anaheim, and CHICAGO to get to the SCF? 3 game 7's on the road? THE ROAD?? 7-0 in eliminations games? We played 7 elimination games through 3 rounds!!! Unreal. If there were a time to toss my mic in the air and walk of the stage, this would be it.

But it only got sweeter. LA vs New York. East vs. West. Quick vs. Lundqvist. Conn Smythe vs Vezina. The maturing of Pearson and Toffoli. 3 more OT wins and another home ice Stanley Cup clinching victory. 2 Stanley Cups in 3 years. 2012 was not a team that got hot at the right time, it was merely a precursor. A precursor to this run and god knows what else. Solidifying what we had dreamed of for decades. DECADES!!

This ****in team right here!! The saviors of the broken. The beaten. And the damned.

It was close, but the first Cup made me feel better. But I tell you what, the second Cup made the first one feel EVEN BETTER two years later. 2012 was signaling the Kings arrival to the NHL elite. 2014 was validation that 2012 was not a one hit wonder scenario and this team could potentially become the team of the decade. I feel pretty safe in saying that no Cup winning team will ever start all 4 series 3-0 while starting on the road each time. I also feel very secure in predicting that no other team will start the playoffs in an 0-3 hole and the brink of elimination before winning 16 games and 3 Game 7s on the road. The Kings just don't win Cups, they make it a point to be historic and memorable . We all know that regular season records don't mean jack, but over the last 3 seasons the Kings have gone 10-1 in playoff series with only having home ice advantage twice. That is a ridiculous feat. Let other teams kill themselves in the regular season trying to avoid the Kings in the playoffs. Doesn't seem to matter for our boys.

So, how does the difference between the two feel?
Everyone knows that one is always bigger than the other.

Nothing beats the first one...but all those game 7's and overtimes that was sweet.

i can't really pick which one is better. it's like picking between 2 children you love, i'd imagine.
    for me...
game 6 of the 2012 SCF was a lot like the playoff run itself. LA kicked NJ's ass just as they'd dominated the entire run.
game 5 of the 2014 SCF ended in 2OT, reflecting how tense LA's entire run kept me.

with 2012, i was euphoric just based on how it was the first win and it was something i never imagined the kings would attain. 2014, i get euphoric every time i see a replay of that GWG by alec martinez. just the glee and jubilation... i don't think i'll ever forget that goal, whereas i can't really remember the GWG/cup clincher from the NJ series. yet i'll never forget the feeling i had watching them dominate all 4 series and watching that cup hoisted by them for the first time.
