It's not accurate. You just don't cut through the playoffs like Sherman cutting through the South if you're mediocre.

Embarrasing? Certainly. Unprecedented for a defending Stanley Cup Champion? No. See 1996 New Jersey Devils.

Bottom line is that THIS team is playing like the 11-12 regular season Kings, not the 11-12 playoff Kings. THIS team is mediocre.

This team is playing mediocre at the moment; i.e., two games. They don't have a mediocre defensive core, offensive core or goalie, and they don't have a mediocre coach. They have some chemistry. The demise of the Kings is no less overstated than their perennial coronation.

It's one thing to say "this team is playing mediocre hockey". To actually call the team mediocre, after a two-game sample size coming off of a long layoff, is a bit silly.

I predict that the team will start to come around 3/4's of the way in just to eek out the last playoff spot obliterating every unfortunate team that comes in their path on their way to hoisting Lord Stanley in record breaking style.

Really? Doughty/Scuderi/Voynov/Martinez/Muzzin/Drewiske isn't mediocre? And that offensive core was mediocre (actually they were gawdawful) last year...and they're mediocre (maybe gawdawul) again right now. Quick was fine...but definitely not the Vezina candidate last year. And I don't see much chemistry. They had it for about 30 games last year, but before that they had no chemistry...they were horrible. It's hard to believe how people have forgotten just how bad this team was offensively. And without Mitchell (and Greene), the D just isn't the same either.

    I agree about the coach.

I don't know what the difference is between playing mediocre and being mediocre. If you play mediocre, you ARE mediocre.

Ok, I get what you're saying but in the harsh reality of sports...you are how you play.

Four of those guys have their name on the Stanley Cup. One arguably should have won the Norris trophy a couple of years ago. (Would have if he were in the Eastern Conference) It's not like we are rolling Randy Jones and Aki Berg onto the ice nightly. Let's panic if we get to 0 - 5.

A good team still recovering from (a) short preseason and (b) SC extravaganza. They have the Cup. Other teams want it. Might take the haves some time to match energy with the wants.

Absence of Greenie and Mitchell is significant. DD and Voynov look pretty good. Pancakes is skating in syrup. Quick looked better last night. DB is, well, regular season DB again. These guys will come around.

Did Mitchell die? And you don't distinguish pre-Sutter and post-Sutter? And the difference between playing mediocre and being mediocre; Lance Armstrong is a bad guy who did some good things; you're probably a good guy who has done some bad things (e.g., etching Kings' logos on your poo). We'll all act like arses from time to time, that doesn't mean we are all arses. You seem really focused on these two games.
