Thought this tidbit was interesting from Elliotte Friedman's weekly 30 thoughts column:
12. One opposing coach on the Kings: "Still the best team we've played. And the best pace, too." Already five points out, though.

Kings aren't playing that bad. Also have to keep in mind that EVERY team is gunning for them now. They get the best effort from every one. They will have a nice hot streak I still think soon. Signs of life are there...
I do not think it is a matter of complacency, with the team. Quick has not been very good. They have had 2 games go terribly against them. Have they lacked full 60 minute efforts, sure. But that is not complacency.
They played very good yesterday. Quick should have made that stop. The transition game is what is lacking terribly. Additionally, they have given up quite a few junk goals. Something 2 stay at home d-men would really help in. Not only in locking up guys, but clearing the space in front of Quick. The rebounds being given up are awful, and allowing for half empty netters. Couple big guys that can stay there to block that half open net sure sounds good to me.
I think a lot of people, who have been here longer than 2 years, know this and are not panicking.
Sorry, I didn't mean to be arguing with you either. Also didn't mean for my original response to be calling your fan-ship into question or anything, if that's how it was read. Glad you see my point now, that was all I was trying to get across... I certainly don't think it is a "right" or "wrong" situation!
I'm doing the same right now with the games we have in hand to see if that puts us in the playoffs.
Yesterday was the first time they looked like they did last spring for big stretches of the game.
I'm not going to panic. Lombardi can't reshape this roster instantaneously, so it is what it is. The solution is going to have to come out of that locker room, just like it did last spring.
at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.

They are playing like the team that barely made it in as an 8th seed last year. They are slowly starting to play better and with a greater sense of urgency. Hopefully they will wake up from the Stanley Cup hangover soon.
