Default Interesting observation (well, maybe not interesting) I made the other night

The other night I was watching a clip on youtube about the "Miracle On Manchester" game and something caught my eye. When the cameras panned to the crowd, you could count the number ofpeople wearing Kings jerseys on one hand. I remember after attending my first Kings game in 1984 that I wanted a jersey (I was only 10 years old at the time) so badly, but I had no money to buy my own, and my pops wouldn't spring for one. These days, you can't look anywhere at a game without seeing a jersey (which is great!). Do you guys think that the masses weren't fans of the old Forum Blue & Gold back then? Were jerseys more expensive back then? What gives?

I don't think it was the colors as much as the popularity and the sporting etiquette of the time.

Hell, watch clips from the 50's and fans are in suits and evening dresses.

The whole jersey fad didn't catch on until the rappers made them mainstream starting in the early 90's.

Even for sporting events, people still "dressed to impress."

you watch any game from the 80s and early 90s and you barely see fans with jerseys. i remember i got a jersey when i was 8 (probably 91ish) but i remember it was expensive and i had a grandmother that spoiled me.

Yes, the culture is different now. Also, people used to live within their means. Credit cards were for emergencies, not for buying team gear.

I made the same observation a month or so ago when Kings Vision was posting video from the 1993 SCF. I was watching the video from game 2 in Montreal, and almost NO ONE had a jersey or even team gear. I don't have any particular recollection of things changing, but they obviously did.

That always cracks me up when I see old baseball footage.

Actually I would be interested to know if there is any historical pricing on the jerseys and if they were even sold at the forum.

Lots of times in the old days, if you saw a team jersey, it was home made.

Everyone had a suit and fedora on and they were chomping on a smoke.

Now, everyone wears jerseys and can't put down the cell phones!
