I'm sure this is exactly what happened. And it says something about Hickey that Deano couldn't get a bite on Hickey from a good team. We will never know if Hickey had every got a chance what he could do. Then again, the 6 people the Kings have on the back line are pretty darn good, pretty sure Hickey could never beat out even Marty or Slava.

And I wish Richie Clune well. Kid has a huge heart and played hard every shift. But he just didn't have NHL quality skills and he'd never beat out Clifford or Nolan for a spot on the Kings. Which makes it surprising that the Preds wanted him. But I wish Richie well.

Crazy to the think Westgarth had more trade value than Hickey. Ouch.

again, i'm not so sure the whole sitch was as nuanced as some of you are making it out to be. Hickey was waiver eligible, ergo, had to clear waivers to be sent to Manchester (like he would have in September), that's it. he wasn't going to crack the roster this season, and i highly doubt Lombardi was all too eager to cut bait on him regardless of his draft position or perceived trade value - i think that has more to do with some around here STILL hoping to poke more holes in Dean's game.

Hickey was not only one of the best defensemen in Manchester, he also wore an 'A'.

Right. And so, WHILE IT ISN'T A HUGE BIG DEAL AND DOESN'T NEGATE LOMBARDI'S VALUE AFTER WE WON THE CUP, it was still a ****up on his part and Garth Snow is still a dick.

Yeah, i mis-read the bit in your post about him having to clear waivers to play in MCH. So, ok, no fault to Lombardi.

Hickey had to clear waivers to stay in the AHL on any team. The Isles can't send him down without offering him back up. He stays in NY for the rest if the year, or they potentially lose him, possibly back to us.
