I haven't taken a good look at the new CBA but under the previous CBA, non-waiver exempt players were only exposed to waivers once they failed to make the NHL roster out of camp. Hickey, Clune, Cliche did not make the NHL roster during "training camp" so they were exposed.

For those lamenting the loss of Hickey.....

Had DL traded Hickey for Anthony Stewart and picks, and then waived or released Westgarth you would have applauded him for his asset management ability.

Yup, that's what I meant by "making him ineligible for you to acquire him.

From the get go I was raving mad about the Kings not drafting Alzner. Living in Calgary and being able to see and hear a lot of him during his time with the Hitmen, I couldn't believe that DL would reach for another player when Alzner was all but guaranteed to live up to his promise and fill a need with the Kings. Of course, DL struck out and Alzner has been as advertised as a dependable defensive Dman who should have a long NHL career.

    Way to go Dean...

With that said, the Kings won the Stanley Cup so who gives a @#$%

Good luck Hickey and I'm pretty sure the Byatch1979 GM'ed LA Kings team with Alzner, Luongo and and Patrick O'Sullivan wouldn't have won squat. Never said this before but now it is time... IN DEAN I TRUST!!!!

So it appears that Hickey had to be put on waivers and was not claimed when he was put "on loan" to Manchester back in September.

    ahhhhhh....nope:

"There’s also a chance that more players could be headed to Manchester during a (probable) NHL lockout. There are five additional players who meet the criteria to sign an AHL-only contract during the lockout. They are Andrew Campbell, Marc-Andre Cliche, Rich Clune, Thomas Hickey and Jake Muzzin. So, there is a way for the Kings to get those players to the AHL without the waiver process, but there’s no guarantee that they will sign those AHL contracts. We should know more in the next few days."

    Yep.

The link from jammer06 talked about how the Kings would have to decide whether to subject Hickey to waivers for pursposes of loaning him to the Monarchs and possibly risk the gamble of losing him for nothing if the lockout ended the following week. But ultimately they did not have to make that choice because he was eligible to sign an AHL deal. But in the end, he was going to be subject to waivers either way unless he earned a spot with the Kings.

Who knows? We might get him back.

Just a point of clarification, I never saw Campbell clear waivers, is he in camp right now?
