I hope he gets a good shot in NY and takes advantage of it. It sure as hell stings for Manchester right now, and I'm really sorry for that.

No just one. Garth Snow.
I just looked back at that draft year and there is a lot of suspect picks. Only Kane and Couture can be considered great 1st rounders. Of course Shattenkirk, Alzner, Vorachek and Sutter get time in the NHL if not regular shifts. P. K. Suban was drafted in the second but I wouldn't like him on Kings - he's a punk.
Just a weak draft year. Hope Hickey does well on the Island (or in Brooklyn).
We had too much depth for them to get a chance... At least in Hickey's case.
I'm fine with both of these.
Clune just isnt needed. Both King and Nolan > Clune. And Clune type players are dime a dozen.
Hickey is a bust for us. Maybe on another team he might find a role. Like NYI, who has the weakest D in the league. But for the Kings, there is no room today, or in the near future.
So all it does it free up some spots on the contract list and some $ $.
Kings fans should be THRILLED that the franchise has finally reached a point where players like Clune are literally expendable.
I felt the same way when the team lost guys like Willsie and Armstrong.
This should be viewed as a good thing.
Add the corollary that the blown 4th overall choice has created no deleterious effect on the team's present or future strength. I hope Hickey catches on with the Isles and gets his chance in the big time. The guy does have a lot of talent if used correctly and he stays healthy. Good luck, Thomas.
Forgot about him. That actually makes that draft even better, notwithstanding the Hickey pick. Whether this was as big a mistake as the Cloutier situation (Cup4LA) is debatable. I would argue that blowing a top 5 pick at any point usually really hurts a franchise. I'm just glad that in the Kings case it did not, and that we can have this discussion in the afterglow of a Stanley Cup win.
Guess that answers the question "What would Hickey and say a 3rd fetch?"
Detroit had to waive Kyle Quincey outright, remember? That worked out pretty well for us.
This is what happens when you have organizational depth. It sucks, and I'm actually in the "Hickey will be something" camp. But Doughty/Martinez/Voynov aren't exactly over the hill, and between the draft, free agency, trade, and current prospects... I find it hard to believe that this move comes back to bite us.
