I'm WAY ahead of this guy. I'm not gonna be back at staples until 2014-15 season at best... The only thing that would get me there before is a free ticket (not preseason like last time) on the right date... I'll be watching from home. Also refuse to buy ANY NHL merch anytime soon. Maybe never again... I'm not financially supporting this league! I have to watch on TV just because I know myself. But I won't be opening up my wallet for YEARS at best... I'm more on the amount of games lost since the 94 lockout schedule I guess... Screw these greedy F's they forget who butters their bread. I'm speaking with my wallet this time. There is absolutely NO excuse for this in the country's least popular major sport. NONE!!!

Kinda reminds me of those gas price protests that crop up every now and then where we're supposed to teach the oil companies a lesson by not buying gas next Tuesday.
why would missing x number of games be punishing ourselves? Maybe if you did not have a life of your own, it possibly could. The league and the players are not punishing anyone but themselves, arena workers and small business around the arena. They are not punishing the fans by not playing. If you feel you are being punished then you are a loser.

It would be a horrible comparison (gasoline and hockey are, indeed, very different). However, I was not comparing gas to hockey; I was comparing the sort of "boycott" that you and others have suggested to the gas price boycotts wherein folks are encouraged not to buy gas on one particular day in order to send a message to the oil companies that consumers are upset about the rising cost of gasoline. Thus, your various points about the distinctions between gasoline and hockey, while factually correct, are not particularly relevant to the point I made.

Yes, seriously. It's called an analogy. I'll break it down. For the most part, smokers are aware that smoking is unhealthy. Therefore, it unnecessary and, in fact, pointless to tell them that it's unhealthy. Likewise (this is where the analogy comes in), if the sole purpose of the boycott you suggested is to make the league, owners, PA, and players aware that we're pissed about the lockout (as your statement that we should refrain from "giv[ing] them any of our money for a week to show how it hurt us" implied), such a showing is unnecessary and the suggested boycott pointless. Why? That's right -- because, as I said, they already know that the fans are pissed. On the other hand, if the purpose of the suggested boycott is to extract some measure of revenge against the league, owners, PA, and players, then I simply don't think it will be effective for at least two reasons: (1) the suggested duration of the suggested boycott is extremely short (see RagBone's "drop in a 55 gallon drum" comment above); and (2) I don't believe you or anyone else has the ability to organize enough willing fans to cause an appreciable effect.

No, I do not "know [that] for a fact." Rather, as mentioned above, you're talking about something I simply don't believe would ever happen. And, even if it could happen, I don't believe it would produce a significant result.

I believe the premise of the suggested boycott is that fans refrain from doing things (e.g., going to games and buying merchandise) that, but for the lockout, they otherwise would do. In fact, I think that must be true since not going to games that you wouldn't go to anyway wouldn't be much of a boycott. Right? For example, Joe Fan typically goes to ten games per year. Presumably, he does so because he enjoys attending the games. However, because of the lockout, he decides not to go to any games. He is therefore depriving himself of something he enjoys, and depriving a person of something he enjoys is typically viewed as a punishment. That's not to say that Joe can't mitigate the punishment by hanging out with his friends and family or engaging in some other hobby.

regardless of when the lockout ends still want to go to the 1st game. that said have been going to gms when i get really good deals or free due to raising a family in socal is not cheap and $ for my kid's education is # 1 priority. also, working in the socal aerospace industry is not a secure feeling and going to school for a 2nd degree and wife finishing up masters has taken focus above hockey. i will continue to watch on my tv and will buy a new sweater so i can have my "champions" patch sewn on.

i have coworkers whom ive gotten to go to games last yr and were ready to become regulars. thats not going to happen now because of the lockout. the die hards will still be there. the sprouts from growing the game are withering.

on the bright side, will be easier for me to get cheap/free seats again.

Here's the ESPN article where I first heard about it: NHL fans fed up with ongoing labor strife in league - ESPN
I saw this on the Angry NHL fans facebook page and I liked their page but for me it doesn't work because I refuse to miss Opening Night. It works if you aren't a Kings fan.Or miss so many games after opening night.
