he looked like a #6 dman today. No complaints. The upside is it seemed to inspire Martinez to play his best game of the season.

at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.

I'm not sure I'd be so proud about trumpeting my desire to have taken Ellerby over Hickey 5 years ago.
I mean... you're arguing about which marginal bubble NHLer "should" have been taken with the 4th overall pick half a decade ago.
The correct answer is neither of them.
At least Ellerby can play more than 5 games without someone farting near him and missing 20 games.
Well of the small sample size today: I thought he was horrible. Hoping tomorrow looks better.
He may have been the consensus, but I'm guessing he'd be considered a bust by now if he played here. Not a Hickey/Teubert bust, but certainly not playing top 4 (*with Mitchell in the lineup).
Everyone would be wringing their hands and wondering why he never reached his potential. In fact, he'd probably be getting traded soon. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he does get traded soon.
