i remember being FAR more interested in Ellerby than i was Alzner at the time. Keaton was not only big and strong - with a mean streak, he skates very well. he was the top defenseman ranked among North American skaters (#6 overall)... ahead of Alzner, though Karl was thought at the time to be the "safer bet" in terms of NHL readiness. whereas Keaton was more along the lines (though a bit further along) of someone like a Colten Teubert or Tyler Myers... i thought he had a little more of a reckless Phaneuf to his game - but a better skater, and not as good of a shot from the point.
Florida seemed to have really eased him in slowly because he has come along slower than hoped, but he looked to have really begun to get the ball rolling a couple of years ago... then DeBoer was canned and Dineen brought in, and he never really seemed to fit in with Kevin's system.
