No kidding - I thought the original question about #2 was sarcasm. Nobody has worn it since 1975? Really? I mean, I can understand forgetting about Richard Petiot or Bryan Muir... but Zmolek/Zhitnik/Redmond/Benning? Or the other fifteen guys that have worn so basic a number in the last almost 40 years?
I did not mean to say that it only happens along the boards, but that is where it happens more times than not.
When Greene pinches along the boards he often positions himself so he can use his right arm and push/throw the forward on his butt. If he has the proper position he can do this all day long without a penalty. In front of the net one has to be more careful when dumping somebody to the ice. I would say that during play, Greene dumps more players along the boards than in front of the net. In either case Greene and Mitchell are more inclined to do this compared to Scuderi.
Awesome! That should help our scoring.
I would disagree. Defense has been a huge problem this year. Every game, Quick is facing high quality scoring chances against from 4-10 ft out. Younger defensemen such as Martinez and Muzzin have been extremely poor in the neutral zone. Drewiske plays defense well but fails to move the puck quick enough. Doughty is a -8 because he is trying to do too much and has been chasing opponents too close to the boards and leaving gaps in the slot. Scuderi has had to play too many minutes and is probably playing with a concussion. Voynov has been the only defenseman I have been pleased with.
All of these defensive breakdowns and blown coverages by our centers as well have led to Quick's poor .889 save %. Plus he has let in several soft goals on his own.
I like the Ellerby pickup. He has great physical skills but hasn't taken the next step to be consistent. He is most definitely an upgrade over Muzzin and Drewiske and at this point in time, Martinez. For the cost of a 5th round pick, I am surprised that is all he cost.
The Kings offense is still a mess. Besides Kopitar, Clifford, and Williams I see very little effort.
Well, yes, the original question was meant t be slightly humorous. I was trying to point out that until the present roster, the meager history of memorable defensemen on the Los Angeles Kings is only eclipsed by the scant list of memorable gaoltenders. I don't mind people having fun with it too.
