And as far as the kings are concerned, they are not only outshooting their opponents on a regular basis, they are also outchancing them. Here's how the scoring chances break down for each game (at even strength):

    +4 against ana
    even against nash
    +6 against van
    -5 against phx
    +5 against edm
    +2 against col
can't seem to find the chi game, but let's assume that was in the minus column.

i think this was mentioned already, but they also have no players with a negative corsi rating.

Once the goaltending stabilizes and they finish their chances, the kings should start piling up points no problem.

Right now, we're dealing with an awfully small sample size of games, and unfortunately it's a short season, so waiting for things to stabilize can be problematic. But for the time being, i wouldn't be too concerned.

From what I know of statistics - there's always an important variable out there, that you didn't consider.

And a little practical application of knowledge:
At the start of the season, the LAK were 8-10/1
    Has anything really changed?

And what a difference 3 weeks can make.
    7-3-0.

First, lets check those Fenwick numbers.

    60% is pretty unreal.
What kind of teams keep that up for a whole season?
'07-'09 Red Wings and '10 Blackhawks
    Good company!

    And PDO?

Still 26th. But that's good news, lots of good luck still out there.

Notice who's all the way at the top? That's right. Ducks. Lots of bad luck (and fasth regression) in store for them.

As much as I dislike them, I don't think so, they are this seasons Yotes...Of course we are this seasons Kings, play like they did tonight and yeah, the new King is the old King.

You may have a gut feeling about it, but their team shooting and save percentages are not sustainable. As the article aaron links to notes, they're doing the same thing Minnesota did last season, and Dallas the season before, and Colorado the season before that...

The only difference is that this is a short season, so their overachieving will buy them a playoff spot, but they're not nearly as good as their record indicates. Hell, the Kings are only 1 (one!) ROW win behind the Ducks, despite the vastly different starts to the season.

Just look at those Fenwick Close percentages, too; that means the Ducks have the puck less than 50% of the time when the game is on the line, while the Kings have it 60% of the time in those situations (e.g., the third period last night).

    Ducks are an aberration.

I hate the D*cks as much or more than anybody here but does this mean that the Kings have the puck more in the 3rd period because they have probably trailed more in the 3rd than the D*cks have this season?
