    No 3 year deal.
2 year is a real stretch. Only if Mitchell is questionable.
1 year only at a price that lets Dean sign the rfas

He's got tough miles on him. And next year is the real cap crunch year.

    doughty
    mitchell
    voynov
    martinez
    greene
    ellerby/drewiske/muzzin/

    Is serviceable
I agree that the team can survive without him (and even Mitchell or Greene... look at the last 8 games for gosh sakes) but after the cap crunch of next season don't we think the Cap will continue it's upward track? If Scuderi can be signed for 2 more seasons at slightly less than what he makes right now isn't that worth it?

meh, I don't know. But he'd be on a 35+ contract, so cap circumvention takes a bit more work. I do know that Scuderi in 3 years isn't likely to play like Scuderi today, much less 3 years ago.

    Lowball scuds? Wow.

If the dude wants to play, pay him what he's worth. He's worth every bit that he's making now, and his play has yet to fall off.

Keep Greene/Mitchell/doughty/voynov/Scuderi as long as possible, and as long as they can play. The 6th D-man doesn't even matter after that.

Well.... we're not really talking about 3 years from now. We're talking about 2.5 years from now and I realize that's splitting hairs and all but do we really expect that dramatic a drop off?

I'm not sure that paying him what he gets paid now (or even slightly less) should be considered "lowballing" him. If he can find another team willing to pay him $3.5 or $4 Million a season then by all means he should consider it.

I think he's definitely worth it, and yeah, the cap should trend upward again. The only reason the cap is being reduced in the 2013-2014 season is because they are only playing half a season in 2013, so there is reduced revenue (which subsequently would have a much lower cap). So, they had to agree to some workable number for next season.

Anyway, there are a couple key reasons why he definitely should be kept for a couple more years, possibly even three:
    - This is the last contract Scuderi will sign before he becomes part of the 35+ rule. He turns 35 in December, so if the Kings want to keep him for a few years in the Sean O'Donnell role, it might be more beneficial to sign a longer contract, especially if it will reduce the cap hit more.

    - There's still ambiguity of anyone able to fill in his role long term in the Kings system. Forbort's still probably three years away, and Gravel, another defensive prospect, is likely a few years away. Without being confident to have someone play his role for the next couple years, the Kings will either have to trade or overpay another UFA to come in and do the exact same thing.

    "The Power Play" bonus

I think there will be multiple teams willing to pay for his services. #1 would be the Islanders.

And he had a helluva assist on Koivu's goal the other night! Oh...wait....

Seriously, though, I'd love to have him around a few more years. There was a reason why we paid (perhaps overpaid somewhat) to pick him up after he won the Cup with Pittsburgh, and that same sort of thinking likely will cause someone else to do the same thing now that he has two Cups under his belt. If we can lock him up for a decent price before he goes on the open market, I'm all for it.

Scuderi will be fine at 38, hell I hope Doughty can get back to what he was 12 months ago.

Sorry but I am shocked that some people are fine without him. He is nothing but class and a war horse who takes a big ass cut to the face after being slammed face first and comes back then again recently where his eye was close and jacked up. The team sees that and feeds off it. I haven't even gotten to his work ethic or how great he is on D. He makes this team better and sorry I rather have him in the line to where Doughty or Voynov can produce more O then let him go and let Muzzin or DD2 take the reigns.

3-3.5 for Scuderi is a good deal imo. Mitchell won't be here within 2 years either. Mitchell is great also, but he is a lot more worn then Scuderi is.
