Lots of teams need help on D. Somebody will overpay, Don Meehan will make sure of it.

...and if I may add: KINGS FANS need to move away from the dumpster diving mentality. With all due respect that belongs to the Dave Taylor Era and to Isles' fans. Let 35 year old Redden be another team's project.

    Pass.

I like the analogy that someone used as far as Trent Hunter, because that's what my gut says, "A great name player, but is there anything left in the tank?" I was all for Ethan Moreau and Trent Hunter making the team, the thing is, they didn't produce or fit the team. That's one thing Dean has stressed on players, do they fit (economically and team wise). Does Redden fit team wise? My gut says, "no." I think waving Bodnarchuk says a lot about the way that Drewiske and even Muzzin might be playing in camp. Understand the loss of Mitchell is a stay at home defenseman and that's what Drewiske and Muzzin are. Is that what Redden is? I don't think so. Someone also mentioned Sheldon Souray. Souray was still playing well in Edmonton when he got bannished, I don't know if you could say that about Redden at all.

The thing about signing a guy like Redden, or Stewart for that matter, is that... we can. We have a strong team that doesn't really need to be upgraded to compete. We can sign these guys on short term, low pay contracts. Not because we need to, but because were in a position to take the gamble. If these guys don't pan out we really didn't lose anything, and it gives some of the younger players time to develop. It adds a certain level of flexibility to the team this season as well as going forward. In comparison to a team like NY Islanders who is picking up anyone nd everyone off waivers because they dont have a lot of talent on the team or the willingness to spend money right now.

I don't hate the idea of signing Redden that much. It isn't my personal first choice, but so far I like the the way this team has planned things out and made use of intermediary pieces to bolster its chances.
