Default LA Kings goalie Jonathan Quick has unscheduled wrist surgery

Los Angeles Kings goalie Jonathan Quick hoisted the Stanley Cup last Monday at the team's celebratory parade. If you saw him wincing, there's a reason why.

Quick had emergency surgery on Tuesday, after injuring his wrist during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Kings confirmed the procedure, but couldn't specify which wrist was injured.

Quick. 28, was scheduled to appear on the ice at the goalie camp that bears his name at Stamford Twin Rinks in Connecticut, which is owned by his father-in-law. An email sent to parents who enrolled their children in the summer camp explained that Quick was having surgery on a wrist injury he sustained in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final, that was originally thought not to be severe. But after a postseason MRI, the damage was reassessed and Quick went under the knife on Monday.

The expected recovery time is eight weeks, and he’s prohibited from being on the ice during that time.

He’s still expected to appear at the Jonathan Quick Goalie Camp in an advisory capacity, and the camp offered full refunds for anyone that requested one.

Quick won his second Stanley Cup with the Kings this month after posting a 16-10 record with a .911 save percentage and a 2.58 goals against average. He allowed 10 goals in five games against New York, but pitched a shutout in Game 3. Quick completed the first year of a 10-year, $58-million contract.

Ok, you have an emergency surgery for **** that's life threatening.

If you have surgery on your wrist after an MRI, even as a pro athlete, its not something you deem as an emergency.
at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.

Considering guys have surgery within days of an injury in most leagues, I agree that the use of the term emergency is greatly over used here. That aside, I can't recall there being any rumblings that there might be a wrist injury during the playoffs.
