I don't understand why it's so hard for them to make it so that you have to play the Eastern Conference twice. Go over there once, and make them come here once. It's not rocket science.

Because there is no "eastern conference" in this set up. For example, the Kings would play the teams in their group a certain number of times. They would then play the each of the teams in the other groups the SAME number of times. Therefore, there is no distinguishing "conference" so to speak. In fact, they never did come up with a plan for the playoffs AFTER the first two rounds (which were within the group). After that Buttman said it was going to be up to the GMs or whatever. I preferred it being reseeded after that but due to possible extra travel they might not go for that.
I don't like the set up as it forces the same teams to play in the playoffs. I hated it 25 years ago and still do. It's not as bad as before though since there will be more teams in each group...but still...

The two 7s/8s Divisions are not going to fly due to the unfair playoffs. They need to move 1-2 teams and just leave it at 3x5 for next year until expansion/contraction. Also, if Phoenix moves, they can re-examine again.
Also, this is the map as proposed in 2011 someone posted:

The "better travel" is highly dubious when teams in Florida are flying to Canada for most of its games.

That's going to suck for the Kings if the playoff structure is the top 4 teams in each conference.
Found this on another site for those more visually inclined.

Maybe this is one of the reasons Bettman seems so hellbent on not moving Phoenix. He wants to expand to Seattle, not move there.
Reduces travel for Kings I would say ...
I'd hope they would work something out because the east gets 8 out of 14 teams in the playoffs when the west gets the top half. Send one more team to the east and take the top 8 from each. That way it's fair for all the divisions especially when one is weaker than the other.
