Not at all. Which is why the two easternmost conferences have only 7. If Phoenix moves to Quebec, for example, then that conference will have 8 while the westernmost conference will have 7.

That looks really sensible to me. The NHL must be pushing the 8/7/8/7 for ulterior motives (expansion?).

likely so they can get those rivalries back. Four from each conf so the kings have a good shot of playing edm/cal/van/ana instead of st louis or Dallas.

Folks, it's not about reducing travel, per se, it's about getting more of your road games in the same time zone, so that fans can actually watch half of their team's games at a reasonable hour.

Meh, if the Kings can't beat the snot out of Edmonton, Calgary, and Colorado for the foreseeable future and get by Phoenix or Anaheim for one of the 4 playoff spots they shouldn't be there.

Vancouver isn't going to be world beaters in that group like they are in the current Northwest Division.
