Thread: LeBrun: Realignment is coming

Pierre says that the basic idea would be to go to what was originally proposed in December 2011 with potentially some minor tweaks. From what he says in the article, it sounds like the likely tweaks would not affect the Kings' conference.

I believe the net result is that we'd see more of Calgary, Colorado, Edmonton and Vancouver, less of Dallas, and slightly less of all the other current Western Conference teams, but we'd play all the current East teams at least once.

Personally, I like it.

Well, it's all well and good but it seems all but a certainty that Phoenix is moving somewhere which would throw this whole plan into the ****ter.

Let this Mitch explain it to you. Coyotes get moved to Seattle. The whole plan still works. Nothing has to go to the ****ter except the poo I fling and Eklund.

Let's make it clear that the league alignment that is posted above is not new. It's the same exact alignment the league proposed in 2011. LeBrun was just rehashing our memories. The new alignment will likely look very similar if not identical, but it should be noted that this is not the definitive final version.

Exactly. Seattle will eventually get a team. No reason to scrap the entire plan because one team might move. Changes can always be made.

The NHLPA was unhappy with having 7 teams in two conferences and 8 in the other two. Not sure how they will tackle this issue. Maybe have the top 8 teams regardless of conference from both East and West going? I dunno.

This may have been some of the stuff already hashed out during the lockout.

This gets fixed when they expand into Toronto/Hamilton and Quebec city, with the owners splitting $250M for each franchise, plus the Leafs getting a $50 to 100M check on top of that for the new franchise encroaching on their market.
