Please explain why you see this as a fail and what you think he's worth. And what would you have done had you, thankfully not, been in DL's shoes? I think it's good as they'd be able to get at any point this season. He's undersized, he's not improving his stock in Manchester with his lackluster performance this season, his position is "blocked" in the organization, he's unhappy and has asked for a trade, and it's highly likely he'll never make any sort of impact in the NHL whatsoever. So DL got what the market was able to bear.

He hasnt proven he can stay in the NHL and make a impact and he isnt exactly lighting up the AHL either.

Im really not sure what you people think he was worth, don't forget this is supposed to be one of the best draft classes since 2003.

He's been available for a fifth round pick for weeks with no takers. I'm not sure that it was Lombardi doing Lou a favor. Quite likely, it was the other way around.

I won't be surprised. Give up 5 goals against the Ducks and this is guaranteed to happen.

    A 5th rounder? I'm in shock actually.

But we did beat the Devils for the cup... so fine.

    Very unspectacular performance vs Anaheim.

Never thought that Loktionov would be less valuable than Westgarth!

He was a 5th round pick that never truly developed into an NHL player. None of this **** about him getting a chance matters, he had a crack and didn't stick. We're deep there now, and guys like Andreaoff are going to take the bottom pairing centerman roles where they're suited, he's not.

If you'd rather play him ahead of Stoll or Fraser, you obviously don't understand how the game is played now.

At BEST he's Cliff Ronning, and Ronning in his prime wouldn't beat out Kopitar or Richards, and doesn't have the PK or faceoff skills let alone the shot that Stoll has.

Yeah, and they all are forgetting that he wasn't a 1st or 2nd round pick, he was a drafted in the 5th round.

The goal of the draft is to draft better than 1 player each draft year that will eventually play a consistent role for your NHL club. That means picking the right talent, and THEN developing them.

Sure enough, he's our track record since 1995:

    2005 - Kopitar, Quick
    2006 - Bernier, Lewis
    2007 - Simmonds, Martinez, King
    2008 - Doughty, Voynov
    2009 - Schenn, Clifford, Nolan

The jury is still out on the 2010 to 2012 draft classes, but we're at a clip of 2.4 per year at this stage.
at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.
