Default The Mike Richards for Simmonds/Schenn/2nd Round Pick - Still Do It?

Especially knowing everything that we know now about what Simmonds is capable of, do we still do this trade?

I've still got my massive man-crush on Simmonds, and looking at what he's been able to do with Philly makes me regret losing him, especially in light of a "quiet" Mike Richards regular season (I think that's fair to say).

Simmonds was yet another victim in the amazing TM offensive system (along with Moulson and Purcell), and combined with the stalled development of Kyle Clifford (who many here thought made Simmonds disposable), I wonder if this is a trade that becomes pretty lopsided, sooner rather than later. I think that everybody felt it was a now vs. the future type of trade, but Simmonds has already started big dividends, and Schenn's not far at all.

Schenn was a legitimate blue-chip prospect, and I think his development/progression is right on track. He's a known quantity. And that second-rounder is what it is.

But Simmonds almost felt like an ancillary/auxiliary piece of this trade, and with what he turned out to be, along with what Schenn's going to be... man!

No regrets... not even a little?

Hard not to wish Simmonds (and Schenn) was still here but that said, they won the first Cup in the history of the Franchise. Can't really have any regrets!

When Schenn and Simmonds got traded, I was devastated because I love both of them. I also noticed from facial expression that Mike didn't want to be in LA. He'd still wear Philly hats during interviews. JUST recently he started wearing LA hats. Anyways, they only thing that would make me forget this trade would be a Stanley Cup. If we won a Stanley Cup then, bingo bango we won the trade enough said. So I started hating the trade, but me love me the Cup!!!

Also since Schenn and Simmonds went to Philly, I follow Philly more and consider them my 2nd favourite team, or my East coast team. I actually wanted to see a Philly v. LA final this year. But you know what, maybe we'll see it real soon, as both teams are powerhouses in their own conference.

Would I love to have Simmer back? For sure, I kind of had hope he'd want to come back...but he just signed an extension with Philly...so much for that hope.

It's also funny that Luke is in Philly now, I thought for sure one day Luke and Braydon would end up in LA together.

Anyways, if someone told me when we made that trade we'd get the Cup, I'd do it 7 days out of the week, twice on Sunday!

The trade wasn't so much about numbers as it was character.

In the end, the Kings got a hard-nosed former captain who could score and would seemingly be willing to chew through a brick wall in order to win his shift.

What they let go was a young centerman who was essentially replaced by the guy they were picking up, who was a much more known quantity.

As for Simmonds, he was a nice player with upside, but scuttlebutt and hearsay say that we moved a potential locker room... well, not "problem" or "distraction" as much as a... well, let's call it "influence." And that netted us what could be a more focused young blueliner in the process.

Default The Mike Richards for Simmonds/Schenn/2nd Round Pick - Still Do It?

This would totally be up for debate if we didn't win that big shiny thing two months ago.

That 16-4 run in the playoffs was the answer to your question.

I did t like the trade at the time as well but since kings won the freaking Stanley cup I don't care . Schenn is going to. E a very good 2 line center , offensively better than Richards I think but Richards defense gave a lot more room for kopi to operate and we saw what he did in the playoffs.

It was that thread that made me think about this trade again...

I think the majority of folks thought it was a "We're trading Brayden Schenn, who might be Mike Richard three years from now, for Mike Richards, who is Mike Richards." Totally fair sentiment.

I think I was probably in the minority when I didn't like the trade when it happened. Not that it was a bad trade by any means, but I thought we were giving up a little more than we should. But close enough to even.

But we got less of the Mike Richards than I thought we would (though he looked great until that concussion), and with his smallish size and physical style he plays (which I love, don't get me wrong), I just wonder how much longer he's going to be really productive down the road. Couple that with Simmonds, who totally took it to another level, and it didn't look flukey at all, and what was once an even trade took just a year to become a little more skewed?

I'm not ignorant of what Richards did in the playoffs and his valuable contributions, especially in the early rounds, and it takes the sting off of my Simmonds man-crush. And, you can't underestimate the fact that with Richards, everybody else slots into a role more suited for their talents... but ugh, just don't know.

Sorry, it's summer, there's a lockout looming, and don't we all just love talking hockey? ;-)

THis thread is worse. We should trade AlleyAlBee to the Flyers Boards for future considerations. Waste of bandwidth.

I don't think they'd want me. I've got a NTC, and besides, I'd try to get Simmonds to come back to LA?
