NHL CI only makes the standard def feed available to tv providers.

DirecTV and DISH do not carry any Canadian HD or non-HD channels. However, since they already do carry most of the RSN's in HD, you're gonna get the HD feed for American based teams.

Thanks, Greg. It would be nice if the NHL got some of their **** together and standardized this thing across the league. After all, they're doing more stuff to say "we're sorry" to the fans for the lockouts, right?

Maybe its a bandwidth thing? Bell up here now has 7 NHL HD CI feeds but still can't use all 7 at once. Most I've seen so far is 6.
Last Wednesday, 3 games were scheduled in the NHL, two involving Canadian teams. That night, NHL CI didnt have any of the Canadian feeds. Surely with only 2 games on CI as the 3rd game that night was an NBCSN game, bandwith was not the issue here.

This is not entirely true. Last Saturday, CBC was doing a matinee, Ottawa v Montreal if memory is correct, and the feed was available in HD through CI

It appears that CI is showing Hockey Night in Canada games in HD.

It was Montreal and Toronto- this game was carried on NHL Network-US. Not CI. You are right, nothing to do with bandwith (unless we talking about DISH), it's about broadcast rights and what the provider has purchased.

The providers (both Canada and the US) can only buy NHL CI from the NHL. DirecTV possibly can't purchase entire rights for Rogers Sportsnet (why would they? really not much of a market) In Canada, Bell or Rogers CERTAINLY can't purchase FOX Sports feeds and air them. The providers can't buy on a game per game basis- that's what the NHL CI is for. It's up to the NHL to do HD.
