Default NHL Center ICE- HD feeds

Does anyone know why DirecTV rarely carrys the Canadian HD feeds for games that are not National HNIC broadcasts? Not sure if this is an NHL decision, or a DirecTV decision. Looking at tonight's options, Pittsburgh v Ottawa and Dallas v Calgary, only the US based broadcast is available.

If memory serves it is some contractual thing with Rogers, TSN etc.

I figured it was some contract thing, but what is odd is sometimes they carry the SD Canadian feed. Friggin Canadians is right

Yes DTV has carried the SD feed from our "canadian friends" for sometime. The issue is with HD for some reason.

I remember a couple years ago, no FSW broadcast were coming out of canada. At least, that has been resolved.

I thought it was because some teams charge per game up there

Friggin Canadians. I have placed a call to the NHL offices and left a message. Wonder if they call me back.

I remember reading this somewhere last year as well. It seems that HD in Canada is regarded as a premium service, sort of like pay-per-view.

BTW, this thread applies to Dish as well. Some of the SD signals are passable, but holy jeezus, a couple of the Canadian city broadcasts are virtually unwatchable, like Winnipeg.

And now onto something else I've been meaning to ask. Dish does not broadcast any HD telecasts out of Buffalo, NYI, NYR, and Philly. Is that just Dish? Or is the same on Direct?

On the other hand, the quality of HD out of Boston shows up on my plasma as the best in the league.

I have seen HD for Buffalo, Islanders, Rangers and Flyers on DirecTV.

The Flames, Oilers, Canucks, etc. no longer charge for "premium" games. I complained loudly when I had ordered CI to pay to see all games, and these few moronic money-grabbing teams blacked-out even the opposing CI feed.

Maybe its a bandwidth thing? Bell up here now has 7 NHL HD CI feeds but still can't use all 7 at once. Most I've seen so far is 6.
