He just got in Roszival's way
Brown was the man in the playoffs... 'nuff said.
Clearly he hasn't activated 'Beast mode' yet. I'm sure he will. Jarome Iginla is classic for taking his time too. Many players are like this and can get away with it and some of them are even captains AND well respected across the NHL. Unfortunately, playing at 100% all the time isn't mandatory for everyone in the NHL. Penner thinks he's in this category but clearly he's not. Believe it or not, Brown is. Just watch, he WON'T get sat, especially if the Kings continue their little win streak.
I can't believe people are so shocked by this. Has everyone forgotten how he has been the past few years with the exception of ONLY the last stretch after the deadline last year and playoffs. There is no reason he can't play as good each game. Look at the Olympics too. I still rather trade him for a top 3 sniper. Vanek for Brown. I know Buffalo will never do it but just saying.
That's great if you like Brown and think he is all that and want to flame me, but this is the forums and I am saying what I feel on the matter.
Richards really needs to pick it up also to be a 2nd line center. In Philly he was putting up 62, 66, 75, 80 pts a season then comes to LA and has 44 and now this year not off to a good start. Yes he does other things which is great and stands up for his teammates, but for that salary and contract, I expect at least 60+ pts a season from him.
5 games in and here we are again, same group of know it all *******s.
The Kings won. Enjoy it.
I am not saying you take the guy out of the lineup, just change his role until he gets going. This team isn't blessed with a lot of pure talent, but it is blessed with depth and players who can fill multiple roles. If the top 6 isn't producing, and you have 8 guys who could fill those spots, you go with who is getting the most out of themselves. No one looked particularly strong against Chicago, but since then Carter, Williams, and Kopitar picked up the pace. Both Gagne and Richards played well last night. Dustin hasn't quite made that transition yet. Clifford has it going, Penner is going to get back in soon, and Dwight King has looked good with Kopitar in the past. So has Richardson.
He's always been streaky, never all that consistent. He'll probably snap out of it soon, but why sandbag a team without much punch when a couple of other guys are more likely to produce at the moment? A small kick in the pants might get him going - it has before.
Now that my Brown Jersey has arrived, and I plan on putting the fathead up on the wall later this week, he's doomed to be traded.
So are Kopitar, Carter, and Richards!
at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.

I'm not sure whether a night off or a line demotion would help, but the problem seems pretty clear; he was getting cute in Europe and has brought that game back to the NHL instead of his down-the-stretch-in-2012 game.
Whether he was 1. Trying to be less physical to avoid potential injury/bruises over seas or 2. Simply having success against Euro scrubs with his finesse junk, he clearly isn't transitioning back to the NHL game very well. One of the very few instances in which it appears that keeping in game shape over the lockout has actually hurt a player instead of helped him.
Richards is struggling to re-find his game. I'm not sure Brown is even looking for his yet, and that's what is bothering me.
But I'm in the he'll get it together camp. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
