Interesting that the league canceled all games through November 1. A deal can still be made for a full season.

According to the reports I have read, issues such as length of contract were not in the proposal from the players. It dealt only with the economic issues of the NHL offer. Link:

I'm still not convinced the the NHL loses an entire season, however I'm really starting to think that the Winter Classic is going to end up being opening day.
Correct. It wasn't in the proposals because, as Fehr said in his presser, they aren't giving up the rights they bargained for in the last CBA. The players' position is that issues like salary arbitration and length of entry level contracts are not negotiable. Status quo or bust.

I have zero optimism that there will be a season. But on the positive side, think of the money I'll save and all the NHL oldtimers I'll learn about on NHLn. :danc:
But in several quotes, including the one in my post, they have said they were willing to discuss those issues, but the NHL never let them bring them up.
