I would venture to guess all the Canadian teams plus the Bruins, Flyers, and Rangers. That would make it more than 8 teams though.

Bruins for sure. Forgot about them. Jacobs is pretty high profile which usually means he's one of the big dogs. I don't think Calgary, Edmonton, Ottawa, or even Winnipeg are up there. They're still considered small market.

Detroit and Pittsburgh perhaps? Maybe Washington?

I read somewhere that all the Canadian teams made a profit in the millions. I forget where I read that though. And with the economy issues in the US right now, no way the Red Wings came close to making a profit.

I don't doubt that they made a profit but does that still make them the big 8? I'm pretty sure there were more than 8 teams that made a profit last year but I could be wrong. I thought there were more powerful owners than some of those guys.

What you're suggesting is effectively revenue sharing to Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto. It's still the answer. Share the larger markets or share the pie. The only other option is contraction which does not lend itself to growing a business.

The NHL clearly has no clue how to grow a business when they impose 2 lockouts and put teams in markets that everybody knows are going to fail.

I'd actually say both apply in this case, though. If your post was meant to sarcastically point out that I didn't have anything to do with the Kings winning the Cup, good work! Top notch posting!

But the "journey" I was referring to wasn't the one that the Kings endured on the ice, but the journey that each of us fans has taken following along for the ride. You know, years and years of missing the playoffs and disappointment? Years and years of going to games with family and friends and watching every game we couldn't be at on TV and dissecting games and prospects and everything in between here on LGK? An entire lifetime of supporting this team all paying off in that sweet moment that Dustin Brown lifted the Cup?

Again, if that's where it ends for you, fine. But the banner raising is one of those time-honored traditions across all of the major sports actually that is a pretty ****ing epic moment.

^Bunch of ****ing nine-year old idiots.
    They are Bruins!

I don't have numbers to support this but I don't remember them having any attendance issues. Columbus is in the same boat as Florida
I'm sure you can look at any market that has a winning team and say "there is something there". Atlanta was a playoff team only once in the same time span so how is that considered more of a failure than CBUS or the Florida teams? IMO, the "sunbelt" experiment has been an utter failure...this includes Phoenix. In the 90s the NHL simply expanded too fast.....

Columbus should not be lumped in with Phoenix or Florida. It is not in the sun belt and its failure has everything to do with ownership and little to do with location. Miami of Ohio's hockey team's home games are top 20 in the NCAA in attendance.
