Done for today. Will meet again tomorrow. NHL responded to two NHLPA proposals today.
NHL lockout: Sides will meet again on Friday - CBSSports.com
If nothing else, at least the NHL and NHLPA are still in the same room continuing to talk.
For the third straight day, the two sides held collective bargaining negotiations in New York, meeting for more than five hours on Thursday after they met for a combined 13 hours on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Neither side offered up any specifics as to what took place, but union leader Donald Fehr did say the sides will meet again on Friday. Fehr refused to offer any specifics as to what was being discussed.
On Wednesday the NHLPA made proposals to the NHL regarding revenue sharing and the league's make whole provision, two of the biggest issues still dividing the sides. According to ESPN's Katie Strang, the league did, in fact, respond to those proposals on Thursday and was having internal meetings on Thursday evening.
NHL commissioner Gary Bettman didn't offer any specifics, either, and simply said "there is still a lot of work to do."
The last time the NHLPA made proposals to the league was on Oct. 18, when it made three separate offers to the league. The NHL quickly dismissed all three, rejecting them within a matter of 15 minutes. The two sides didn't meet face-to-face again until Saturday, when deputy commissioner Bill Daly and NHLPA special counsel Steve Fehr met at a secret location in New York.
Without knowing any of the specifics, and at this point both sides are being extremely tight-lipped about their most recent talks, the fact the meetings continued on Thursday and will resume on Friday is at least better than what happened a few weeks ago, the last time proposals were exchanged.

Haha, a very reasonable conclusion.
I was just saying that rumors are rumors. This Bob guy has some documented proof of some things that he's broken, whether it was luck or real sources: WHY INCARCERATED BOB IS A LEGIT SOURCE!
With something as volatile as labor talks, things can get better or worse in a hurry. Whether it is some hack blogger with a player friend or a legitimate beat writer, the reality is that passing along what one player is thinking in the middle of negotiations isn't really anything worth getting excited/upset over.
I truly hope that this gets settled by next September so we can watch a complete season. I have no hope for this year but please be ready for next season to start.
Fehr's memo to players. Doesn't sound that close.
NHLPA's Fehr sends memo to players; work needed to be done
I wouldn't put too much stock in it. He can't be too optimistic and then have to answer the "what happened??" question if it falls apart. Besides, he knew it would leak and he is already paranoid because he believes that a single player's optimistic remark caused MLB to pull an offer when he was head of the MLBPA. There was no upside to a positive letter.
Looked like a pretty realistic letter on the situation. At least they're talking.
