The NHL is a different sort of entertainment business. This is a competition with a goal to win it all. So, yes, the owners do what they can to satisfy what the fans want, so they offer more than the competition. These are not "outrageous". Owners are doing their job. The CBA allowed them to circumvent the CAP. Etc. etc., it's time the players suck it up and admit that they are the ones constantly getting raises because of all this, and that maybe, just maybe there's also a time for the owners to fix what is wrong with the CBA and ensure they won't lose money. Don't you think?

Stop crying about owners giving "ridiculous" amounts of money. They (those who can) are doing what the fans want. Go on capgeek and see for yourself how much CAP room is there available league-wide. A lot. And that's not because of "ridiculous" contracts, it's because many owners don't want to go (further) into the red.

What you want is a league where owners don't "overpay". Not possible.

It's not about players being spoiled, it's about how professional sports work.

If the owners were doing what the "fans want", we would be watching hockey right now.

We have better arguments than "the owners won the negotiations 8 years ago, it's time the players win too" and "the owners are foolish to give them money" and "you can't take away what's been given to the players" and "the owners are dependent on the players".

If you're attending the meetings, please give us the fully skinny. Otherwise, I don't see how your statement has any cred.

let break down the major concessions each side has made

players: 7% of total revenues (> 1,000,000,000 dollars)
owners: we'll pay you what we already owed you

Scumbag Fehr will keep playing games and stalling in an effort to pick up every crumb he can before the next set of games are cancelled.

If they can't get it done before then, players will miss out on more meals.

    Really, is it that simple?

If it is, then it should be:

Players: still reaping benefits of era before CAP because
owners 8 years ago couldn't possibly negotiate what they thought would make the league stable and fair for at least a big majority of the teams, because for the players it already was a "rape".

Sure, it was a rape, but a necessary one. The same goes for this time, except it's not a rape anymore. FAR from that. But it is necessary.
