The NHL is a different sort of entertainment business. This is a competition with a goal to win it all. So, yes, the owners do what they can to satisfy what the fans want, so they offer more than the competition. These are not "outrageous". Owners are doing their job. Stop crying about owners giving "ridiculous" amounts of money. They (those who can) are doing what the fans want. Go on capgeek and see for yourself how much CAP room is there available league-wide. A lot. And that's not because of "ridiculous" contracts, it's because many owners don't want to go (further) into the red.
What you want is a league where owners don't "overpay". Not possible.
It's not about players being spoiled, it's about how professional sports work.
