Given the hardcore stance from both the NHLPA and the NHL its very real that this could cost the season. That said, do you feel that the PA will cave after the season. If not, whats the possibility of "replacement" players?

Im not advocating this, however was just thinking that if the current NHL'ers can play in Europe and elsewhere, then what would the likelihood of the NHL bringing in new players?

700+ millionaires and they just don't get it.

    Sad that they're so blind.

The PA does it over and over too, since Alan Eagleson.

You're talking like the NHLPA decides where a player can play...if the NHL decides to form a new league, any player can decide to go play there.

The union closed down Hostess and the NHL is right behind.

    you're just trolling me now.
owners can't form a new league. Well, they could. But they would lose all equity.
All players would become free agents. Wonder how many would cross that picket line, and how many new ownership groups would pop up. (WHA lives!)
    --------------------------

Owners only really care that they get 40 games in plus the playoffs. That's where they make their money. Once the winter classic was cancelled, only the really rich clubs care if they get back before February.

Btw, twitter rumor that Florida reported $7m losses publicly, but reported yearly $10M profits to Broward county. Shocking!!

I'm not trolling you. Them losing all equity or the NHLPA being foolishly stubborn (which, in the end, punishes players the most)?

You can talk about morale or something like that all you want, but reality is that the MOST of the players without the NHL are far from being millionaires (unless you think there is enough money for them in Europe, but that's far far far from truth). And NHL in the current shape doesn't exist without the owners and their capital. You can talk like the owners and the league can't successfully form a new one, but that's just not true. There are still tons of fans that want hockey, and will take anything there is. The owners own the names, so the names will stay the same. And if some players want to stay in Russia, that's ok. It's their choice. But they did go to North America for a reason.

I'm not saying it will happen (I think it's almost impossible, FYI), but the players are losing the most with lockouts and it's not in their power to decide whether the season is locked out or not and can't just wait there for the deal to happen by the NHL bending over. And that's all there is to it.

A good article from Eric Duhatschek of the Globe and Mail:

About the only thing I’m prepared to venture is that the drop-dead date to play games in 2012-13 is still two months or more away. That means there will be at least two more opportunities for the sides to get closer and see if they can’t finally bridge that gap. You’d think there would be urgency now, but you’d be wrong. With lawyers and accountants in charge, the real urgency doesn’t start until the clock is five minutes from midnight and the end is in sight. So hang on to your hats, because realistically, they are just at the half way point now – two months into the lockout, with another two months remaining to save a fraction of the 2012-13 season - and maybe the industry’s future as well.
Duhatschek: Welcome to the half-way point of the NHL lockout - The Globe and Mail
