Hamrlik is right and Cole is a dumbass.

It's kinda funny kinda' sad Erik Cole said "you sacrifice for the people coming behind you.", because the ones coming up behind him won't have an NHL to go to if this lockout **** continues. It's too bad the NHLPA doesn't have more members like Hamrlik. I think Hamrlik sees the reality of the situation.

look, the owners have decided not to negotiate until the last minute. they have planned on a half season, unless the union just bends over. Fehr's job is to hold them together until he can make a deal. That's more than a month away. until then, the players are just spitting in the wind. We should all resign ourselves to a half season, starting in 2013.

The owners don't want to cancel a season because they are making money, unlike in 2004/05.
The only leverage the players could have is stating a drop dead date, and sticking to it. That would be real hardball. Deal by Dec 15, or all negotiations stop until May 1. If no deal is forthcoming then, de-certify.

Hamrlik is looking only at his wallet. The reality of the situation is that unless the players refuse to simply cave every single time there's a lockout, there will be a lockout every single time. It is already the NHL's preferred method of "negotiating."Hamrlik is looking at a single CBA. Cole is not. He clearly realizes that he's personally going to lose. The easy road for the NHLPA is to simply cave. They are playing the long game and making it painful for the NHL to have a lockout. They are trying to get the NHL to get away from the lockout as "Plan A."

I think they are both dug in and the vote on both sides would be "no." I think the NHL just seriously pissed off the NHLPA moderates, and the NHL moderates were already pissed. I still think we play in December. All the BS aside, the two sides are very, very close. I can't see either Bettman or Fehr killing the season over a pretty small difference. That would be truly dumb and both of these guys are anything but.

Almost none of this has any basis in fact.

    I disagree.

The players wanted a fight. That's why they hired Fehr in the first place. They are slowing coming to grips with the reality that when you have a much weaker negotiating position, your adversary pretty much prevails in the end. The players can ignore reality if they want, but that doesn't make reality go away.

Roman Hamrlik is not alone w/ his opinion. #Caps goalie Michal Neuvirth just said for our TV NOVA Sport: "I agree 100% with Hammer. This (1)

lockout is not about majority of players, i think. It is about several superstars with big contracts.“ (2)
