Who are the media or the fans to say who the owners/players hire as their reps? It's the owners/players who know best who to have run things. Could they be bad decisions? I suggest the fans quit whining about things they know nothing about (owner/player reps) and concentrate where they have a real impact: Don't show up to games after play resumes. Simple. But NOOOOOOO...that's not what will happen. They'll continue to cry about Bettmen and Fehr and proceed to waste their money on game tix and player jerseys to celebrate the new hockey season like nothing happened......

Ok, let's say fans did this. How long would this go on? Should fans never go to another game? Ever? I know you're not big on going to games but it's just ridiculous to think fans should never go to games again. And if you say "well, no it's not forever" then that's the flaw in your plan...fans WOULD come back - which is exactly what the owners and players already know.

So you suggest fans sit on hockey forums whining? What good does that do considering 99.99% of the fans don't know what they are talking about...including you and I. Even if the fans come back slowly that hurts a great deal and it sure is better than whining. It is NOT a flaw.

BTW, why is ridiculous? You do know that BOXING used to be the most popular sport in the US, right? Hockey is not even a blip on the screen. Hell, BofA spent more for lawyers last year than the NHL made in revenue.

I agree, but substituting one thing that does nothing for another thing that does nothing still does nothing.

You know what would happen if fans stayed away? The weakest teams (at the moment since they always rotate) would fold and the remaining owners would be the hardest of the hardliners (Jacobs, Wertz...) and fight the players that much harder.

There's nothing fans can do except choose not to be fans anymore. That's what happened to me with baseball in 1994. It was tough at the time because I was a bigger baseball fan then than I am a hockey fan now (hard to believe, eh?) But after a few years I got apathetic and now I just don't care about baseball. As mad as I was at the players (and Fehr) then, and hated to hear a single thing about the game, eventually I got over it and now I can go or watch...but I care about it as much as I care about darts and bowling - probably less.

I still haven't been to a baseball game since that strike. Watched and wagered on plenty of games, but no direct revenue from me.

I'll do the same with the nhl

I disagree it would do nothing. Don't you think it could influence a decision on a future lockout? I do. Your reaction to baseball could very well be what I'm suggesting. Fan apathy as opposed to a conscience avoidance of the sport as I suggested earlier. I don't know. But it's interesting that baseball hasn't closed down again since 94....
