I disagree it would do nothing. Don't you think it could influence a decision on a future lockout? I do. Your reaction to baseball could very well be what I'm suggesting. Fan apathy as opposed to a conscience avoidance of the sport as I suggested earlier. I don't know. But it's interesting that baseball hasn't closed down again since 94....

But if you've already become apathetic towards the sport and don't ever go to another game again, what the hell do you care about whether or not a lockout is spared in the future?

I know you're joking with that comment. At least I think you are. You are on to something there though. The NHL will need something huge to happen to get interest and support back if and when the lockout ends.

Crosby breaks the single season scoring record, and Ovechkin 100 goals?

People forget how much the strike hurt baseball. It was the death blow to baseball in Montreal.

If the owners throw away the keys and close the No Hooky League........ the Kings will be the reigning Champs forever..

You (meaning FAN) doesn't. However, he NHL or PA certainly doesn't want present fans to become apathetic, do they?

Influence? Sure, but I think the most likely think to happen is the weaker teams (at that moment in time) would fold and leave hardline owners who would fight the players even harder.

Ok, but that does ME no good...except maybe I'd leave hockey (like I did baseball) and start watching lacrosse.

What you're saying is great in the abstract, but in the real world it's even worse for fans than a temporary stoppage. I'd rather hang on the sideline for a year and come back than just leave like I did with baseball. That said, if the players keep acting like a-holes they just might push me away. At least none of the Kings has been a part of that - Mitchell didn't come close to those other assclowns.

No, the players need to realize (as most players do once they retire and become owners, managers, and NHL execs) that the TEAMS are the league. Players (and owners) come and go. As a wise LGKer once said...I don't root for players, I root for the laundry.

Even if the season started by Xmas, it just wouldn't be the same. It has lost its appeal. What sucks is that this happens just after the Kings win the cup. Who knew? I guess everyone. I seem to be losing interest each and every day. I think I miss the sport and I believe I was a large fan of the sport however, with the Holidays happening and with everyone being so busy, hockey is not that important to me this non-season.

Everyone here seems to be getting along fine without it, we maybe a little mad but we will all start to simmer as the end of the year comes to a close. I can understand the people that are directly effected by this lockout might not feel the same way but as a fan we can move forward with no problem. I believe both these groups just screwed themselves royally this time. They have gambled with the wrong people... the fans.
