If the billboard said "NHL set to go on second lockout in eight years", this body language would be pretty spot on:
Combination Lock
Keyed Lock
Electronic Keypad Lock With Code
Armed Guard

Screw it, guys. 50-50 split, and that's it. Forever. How much do we really want do d**k around with whether it's 53-47 or 51-49? No one can complain about 50-50. It acknowledges what everyone brings to the table and shows no preference. Let's get it done and go on to more important things, like player safety.
There is a lot more than just the 50-50 split that is being talked about here. You have cap limits, roll backs, contract limits, adding more years to the ELC and escrow payments. All in all it's to make sure that players are paid less and the owners make more money. Hard for the players to be really excited when everything the owners proposed is in the owners favor.
On an ancilliary note, Helene Elliot tweeted me today to state that she's pretty sure the max contract length will be made at 7 years. So no more cap cheating Kovy style contracts that extend till you are eligible for AARP.![]()
Hey, they are getting payed millions a year for the most part to play a game. I'd be pissing in my pants excited if I was given the same chance. And as far as things being in the owners favor, they put up the money and take all the risks. They should get the lions share of what profits there may be.
So what? They are still employees at the end of the day. If they don't like it, they can
a) Buy a team and become their own employers
b) Go find work elsewhere, just like any other employee that feels under-compensated by their boss/company/etc.
I don't buy the physical risk aspect either. Nobody forced them into that profession, similar to firemen and crab fishermen.
I see employees have an inflated sense of self-worth all the time. My dad used to remind me when I was acting like my crap doesn't stink: JFK was assassinated and the world didn't end. Meaning, everyone is replaceable.

They must have read my postings from last week where I said contracts should be 5 years max or teams could end up made up entirely of players too old or injured to play! I blame the agents (aka lawyers) for these ridiculous contracts....and the stupid owners who agree to them.
