I would love to have something witty or sarcastic to say, but the prospect of losing even part of the season,(much less the entire season) in which the Kings attempt to defend their first Cup is depressing.
This is the only thing i disagree with, as the biggest difference in the NHL being compared to the NBA and NFL, the TV deal for the NHL sucks. We as fans know it, and all of canada knows it. Something needs to be done to enhance the viewing experience for the causual fan, so the TV deal is good enough and get ratings. TV ratings is the real reason the owners can't turn a profit and it's also the reason why revnue sharing won't help too much.Quote:

this is a direct response to comments made in the media that the league and players could extend the current cba for one year so that they can have more time to negotiate. this is actually a good thing in the sense that the league and players aren't kicking the current problem down the road. he doesn't say anything about what happens if the league and players are close as the deadline nears.
the one thing that drives me crazy about these comments is the way that bettman seems to obscure what actually happened in 2005. he makes it sound like the owners had this cba unjustly foisted upon them, when in reality, the owners won major concessions from the players. this is annoying because he is assuming that nhl fans are idiots.
it's our fault. many fans sided with the owners in the last cba fight (wrongly imo) because we bought into their claims about out of control costs and ticket prices. now we have record revenues, higher than ever ticket prices, and a growing chasm between the wealthy teams and the rest of the league. i hope that fans realize just how stupid bettman and the owners think they are.
I just think it's foolish to assume that the strength of the league should be placed on the teams in the most perilous financial position. The big hitters know they've got a good thing and should just assume it's like college football when you have to buy the home win. The answer is revenue sharing or contraction. Contraction won't make the big owners more money, but revenue sharing will. If the NFL teams can figure it out they can as well.
The owners are the one who hired Gary Bettman. They're the ones that can fire him, there's no election process or anything like that.Quote:
