The players have basically asked for a hard cap that grows at a slower rate than revenues and that is less than what they would get under the current system. Even though the percentage increases, the real dollars change little growing from 1.91b to 2.1b. The major difference between the players and the owners proposals is that the players are focusing on a dollar amount so as not to give up salary this season. Instead they forgo income in future years assuming the league continues to grow at a rater higher than 4% in year two and 6 % in year three. The latest proposal also has safeguards in the event that revenues do not rise at the same rate or if it rises at a greater rate in the 4th and 5th years. the owners on the other hand are focusing on salary cap as a percentage of revenues that always stays constant and that requires an immediate salary roll back.
