I don't know enough of the process of this all but whyat I do know is neither side is innocent. No way you can put all the blame on either side. Both are out to get the most for their side..... Who suffers the most - THE FANS
why can't the revenue be 50/50
I get why the league threatens to shut down the season - to prevent the farting around tactics and the players get to it with a counter offer - otherwise We wait for weeks before anything happens.
Everyone knew they had to work on an agreement - why are they not meeting for long hours everyday to make this happen like the day after the draft. It's BS. Stretch it out and hope one side gives in so they can play or make money. Threaten to cancel the season....f'n BS. Players are no better - what was their counter offer?
And for those who think its the owners fault for high salaries..... I feel its 50/50 on owners and players. What do you do if your #1star player knows he can make 9-10million on the open market. Now you have an elite player demanding 10million. Let him sit? No way - some team will play because they need him.

If there is no season it will kill the sport -

Are the owners greedy? Of course. Any more greedy than a group of guys, making more in a few years than most Americans do in their life time, by playing a game I pay a ****-ton (yes, that's a unit of measurement) of money to play? Probably not.

Yes, I'm bitter that my season is ending and I have to fork over hundreds of dollars if I want to continue to be in a league

No good sir, you are not. It is a sad situation all around, and both sides are to blame.

You'd think the owners, Bettman, some players and Fehr have learned something over the many times this has occurred, to avoid this crap.

It'll never change: the BS postering, the sticking to their guns, the blame that gets thrown around...just lock them all in a room, and tell them no Starbucks untill this thing is settled. Let's see how fast they can make a deal then.

As much as it pains me to think about -- I think a lockout (that doesn't kill the whole season) will help the Kings in their bid to repeat (e.g. more time for JQ to mend, an intact roster that won't waste time learning to play together, more rest from the long playoff season).

The explain to me that ridiculous "escrow account" the players had to pay into to defray owners' costs in case the incoming revenue tanked.

The owners created this whole mess in the first place, when Leonsis offered that huge contract to Federov all those years ago. Detroit, of course matched it, but that was the first shot across the bow. Then idiots like Hicks in Dallas started spending like drunken sailors and the race was on. No one held a gun to their head to offer more and more ludicrous contracts.

That eventually lead to 2 stoppages, and after the second, the owners were all crowing about achieving "cost certainty". It was BS then and it's BS now.

I guess it's not so certain, after all.

The players gave in on almost all of the issues the last time. The current owners' demands are draconian and prove what total, greedy weasels they all are. This crap is following one of the most lucrative runs in the league's history. The players' union will rightly tell them to pound sand. We'll use our FF money to get more work done on our house.

If there is another appreciable stoppage, by the time they get back to playing I may no longer care. The owners obviously don't care about the sport of which they are allegedly the custodians but they also don't care about the fans (as long as their checks continue to clear) or all the other ancillary workers (like the concession and other venue workers) who are
really hit hard due to the loss of income - to the owners, those are the cost savings during a lockout.

Wouldn't it be fitting that the Kings are the last NHL Stanley Cup Champions?

Nope. You can thank Bruce McNall and his looted plunder and The Great One demanding over payment for the escalation war of NHL salaries.

The Times reported that the owners are confident that the season will start on time. What we've seen is just a bunch of posturing.
