Could they just agree in principle and start the season on November 2nd while finalizing the deal involving issues that aren't directly related to economics?

The owners blinked.... thank you owners. They made two offers in a row (essentially bargaining against themselves) and it would look like they listened to fans in saying 50/50 and no rollback, so the ball is way way over on the players side. Maybe a a couple tweaks but this is where we all thought it would end up.

so has the stubhub inflation taken effect yet for the game on the 3rd?

I had this same thought however after thinking about it I quickly dismissed the idea. If I were general counsel to either the players or the league I would be very quick to shoot down such a plan. I've had it happen to me a handful of times where I have a deal in place for a client (I practice both family and criminal law) and at the very last moment something changes and we are back to the drawing boards. Until you have ink on paper nothing at all has been agreed upon.

Not yet. And speculation is risk fee since everything gets refunded if it doesn't happen.

That won't happen. If this agreement is agreed to, it will go to a vote and be wrapped up in a few days. They aren't going to hold up the season because they're still hammering out specifics on travel benefits and insurance premiums.
