This...another case of a young euro rookie not getting time in the minors like he should have. See Berg, Aki.
What sets him apart is that he’s big, and he can skate, and he can protect the puck from anyone. If you’re trying to get it and he doesn’t want you to get, you’re not going to. -Justin Williams on Kopitar

Agreed. Best thing DT did was sending him back to Finland after his 8 game stent as a an 18 year old. But some of that was driven by the need to fulfill his mandatory 1 year military service.

When the Kings made the deal for Palffy, it was simply because Staples Center was opening and they needed a big "splash" to compete with the Lakers and all of their wonderful players.

The Kings absolutely ROBBED the Islanders of Palffy and Gary Betteman actually said "no ******ing way" and forced the Kings to throw Jokinen into the deal. That changed the entire culture of the Kings. Had Jokinen and Palffy been on the same line... Murray and Smolinski and not having to chase Jason Allison. They had to rely on Josef Stumpel, a 2nd line center at best) on the 1st line for years.

Imagine the Kings without Kopitar. We wouldn't have won 2 cups.

Gotta totally disagree...... and I hope their was some tongue in cheek in that response. The great part about Gaborik is that he was Palffy, Berg, fill in the blank all wrapped up into one...with one big exception. He got to hang around and suffer, then get his second opportunity to come to a team like LA and be told, "you ain't the man." He may be that good, but just imagine being one of the best players on bad teams and finally getting the chance to play with guys who are as good (if not better) than you.

Gaborik is a great example of what makes DL Kings Hockey great. The rest of the guys mentioned in this post are the great example of why Kings fans soooo deserved 2012 and 2014.

This I should point out is the reason the Kings franchised FAILED for 40 years under Cooke, Buss, McFraud and early AEG. If they had done what the Flyers did in 1968 (or the Islanders in 1972) the history of this team would have been entirely different. Sadly, the Kings didn't "get it" until 2006.

Damn you guys for bringing up Aki Berg. I won't ever forget the game Georges Laraque scored a hat trick and I think Aki Berg was on the ice for all three goals. Think about that for a second. Georges Laraque scored a hat trick. Against the Kings. Barf.

I think Aki Berg's career highlight was fighting Mario Lemieux, and losing to him. Jokinen was touted as the Finnish Eric Lindros and Aki Berg was the Finnish Scott Stevens.

I'd like to know why so many people insist on spelling his name with an "e".
