I remember not liking the guy for having only OK production in his time here. Looking over his career, I have to say that his biggest fault was being drafted by a Kings team that couldn't/wouldn't surround him with enough talent to succeed.
Olli Jokinen likes what he sees in Peter Laviolette, Nashville Predators - NHL Free Agency 2014

I was looking for his line mates on his teams various teams (including the Kings) and I am having a hard time with the research. Anyone know where I can find that?
With a little more research, Jokinen has been pretty up and down the last few years. He had 5 great years with Florida (2002-2008), three down years(2008-2010) a resurgence in Calgary, but is trending downwards in points. Definitely worth $2.5 Million.

It helped Jokinen that during his tenure in Florida he had Mike Keenan as a coach who would put his foot up his nether region if he slacked off. He's unfortunately one of those players that you couldn't leave to their own devices, but had to constantly poke and prod to keep them motivated.
Keenan also had a tendency to ride his top guys hard like a rented mule so Jokinen was force fed a ton of minutes in every situation.

I was hoping we would sign him so we could flip him for Palffy once more..

When DL came in, he derided the Palffy trade because it "was a trade you don't make if you are trying to win the Stanley Cup" - implying we should've built around Olli (or, more likely, the idea of size and skill) vs. going for pure offensive flash. I always thought DL would find a way to bring Olli back, but he must've soured on him over the years - DL has had plenty of chances to sign him relatively cheaply, but has passed every time. On second thought, maybe he just hated Ziggy.

Lombardi never traded palffy. Ziggy signed with Pittsburgh long before Lombardi took over. I think your thinking about pavel demietra I think that's how you spell it lol

I think the point DL was making was about not trading away your young talent when you are "building". It was more the timing of the trade than anything personal toward either player.

I remember when Olli was centering Luc Robitaille and Pavel Rosa during the 1998-99 season and many of us thinking that was the future of the Kings in Jokinen and Rosa. Boy were we wrong. Same happened when Vitali Yachmenev came along with Vladimir Tsyplakov and we thought these guys were the future. Whoops.
Jokinen was quite pudgy and out of shape from what I recall reading when he was a King and with the Islanders as well. It took him quite some time to finally "get it."

Exactly. A big, talented, Center, at that.
