When Gretzky announced that he was a King at the press conference, I had to decide what was more exciting...
1. The greatest player of all time playing for the Kings
2. Finally got rid of those god-awful purple and gold monstrosities

Ya'know, I totally agree. I had the same feeling.......in 1988.
However, it is amazing how good they look now! It's funny, but I think they are the best uni's in hockey now. That also seems to be the consensus view as well. I just don't know what the marketing people are/were thinking. In my opinion there is no doubt that going to these throwbacks full time would be an absolute hit!!
People say that purple doesn't "wear" well. Might be true, but not very many people wear an actual hockey jersey outside of a kings event anyways. T-shirt's and hats can always have different color combos to suit everyone.
They should have made the change before they won the Cup. I agree that it would be very difficult to change in the very near future. Now we are stuck with the worst jersey's (I'm talking full-time jerseys, BK doesn't qualify) in franchise history, and a color that way too many other teams also wear in the NHL. Plus our logo and identity continues to be a revolving door. The best uniforms/logos are those that stay constant through the years.
