In some instances I am sure it does, but in this case it may not be true.
Tell the Canadiens, Red Wings, Rangers, and Maple Leafs that. I'm sure they sell more jersey's than anyone and they don't have black. Black was cool in 1988 because very few teams wore it. Now it is the boring status quo and the Kings have made a choice that ignores originality and identity. I just have a hard time believing that the purple and gold wouldn't sell (based on the endless praise from fans and hockey critics). In fact, I would bet that the throwbacks would outsell the current home-base atrocities. It's not like the current jersey broke any sales records, in fact I have heard the sales from it were/are very disappointing.
Boy he looked taller on TV. Maybe this is why he can get so low!!

Love it and love he has a theme, like Potvin, Cujo, and a few others. Only thing that's a big difference is his are Kings Centric so I doubt we'd see a Team USA one or if he plays for another team.
None of those teams wear purple. The idea is to expand the fan base and merchandise sales which is also the likely reason you see a giant LA on the logo. Imagine a tourist coming to this city and wanting to buy something related to LA. They see that jersey or hat or something like that and buy it simply because it says LA without even knowing it's a hockey team. This is the rumor I've heard at least. Back to color, casual fans are less likely to buy purple clothes that black ones. Red and blue are still popular colors on top of the fact that those teams have tradition on their side. This isn't a similar situation to the Lakers because, they're the freakin' Lakers. Everyone associates them with those colors now because they have a long history of success. The Kings only ounce of success in their history has been while wearing black. And I realize that there are some very outspoken fans who love the nostalgia of the purple and gold, and yeah I get that those colors make sense for a team called the Kings, but they look like puke on hockey players and it's not like they were selling like hot cakes when they were the regulars. For the longest time people on here claimed that Gretzky wasn't enough to have people associate the team with black and white because even with him the Kings never won anything. Well, they now have a cup with the current look. Their worst years were while wearing purple.

a hybrid black/purple/2000 era jersey should be made, a mix of all 4 in a way.. this black and white crap is pathetic, we need some color, and ditch the homeplate. you can do a simple black jersey with the PURPLE AND GOLD crown with purple/gold outlining, it would be beautiful and awesome.
