The Kings and the Rangers battled under the lights outside Caesars Palace - the first hockey game played in Las Vegas since 1968 - in mid-80 degree temperatures. The game drew a crowd of 13,000, most of whom wore shorts and t-shirts to take it all in. "We were a little bit in awe and I'm sure (the Rangers) were too," said Wayne Gretzky, who tallied a goal, about the outdoor game. "We kept looking at each other and couldn't believe we were playing hockey in 80-degree weather. But it was real nice."

I hope this happens. If they can play an outdoor game in Vegas, they can do it in LA.

And then they became Icehoppers. That's the only FF game that I didn't go to in Vegas.

They talked about it on the Hot Stove on Hockey Night in Canada too.

    I would really like this:

Next to Santa Monica Pier. Is there such thing as portable 18k stands? Have the end stands and city side stands and leave the bench side open to ocean. That would be epic.
    Pucker90, Henry1515 and Rb4 like this.

The warmth is definitely not prohibitive, but ... I think to do it in LA, it comes down to this: you have to spend more money than anybody else on refrigeration systems (i.e. use more than one), get into the stadium to start prepping a lot sooner, innovate some new ways to keep the rink insulated from the elements up until game time, and just basically work harder at it. What do they do usually? Lay the ice on Christmas Eve? **** that. Choose a venue that will allow you to spend the entire month of December getting the rink dialed in - preferably a football stadium. That all might sound like a pipe dream, but to Robitaille and Leiweke I say this - how bad do you want it?

If they were really serious about it, they would have the game on top of an Aircraft Carrier parked off of Santa Monica Beach! The beauty of it is every time a player commits an infraction they lock him in the brig AND if they get a game misconduct, we can just throw them overboard!

Absolutely correct. I've seen cold where cold shouldn't be here in California. With a LOT of money this is totally possible.
