This is spot on, and I was definitely in the camp of not feeling strongly about firing Murray, but seeing it more as a necessary evil due to the players than a fault of the man himself. It does concern me how often our top guys (namely Kopitar and Brown) fail to bring their A-game, and I thought maybe the run to the Cup might change that... but so far, not so good.
I do think Sutter's eventual coaching demise might be SLIGHTLY less deserved than Murray's, if for no other reason than the fact that he has at least shown that he can get the most of these guys and take them all the way. Anyone can "lose a locker room" and need to be replaced, but I think it is legitimate to question whether or not Murray's system could ever take a team all the way; the complete lack of creativity on offense coupled with the apparent ability to solve our defense in seven-game series against Vancouver and San Jose made me seriously doubt it.
But that's similar reasoning when pulling a goalie... it's often not the goalies fault the team is sucking that night, but he's often the scapegoat to try something different to motivate the team. Sutter worked obviously, but if in a couple seasons he can't get the guys to get off their butts anymore then a new change will happen.
I would prefer King on the second line......but that being said, Go Cliffy !!
