Tattoos are a different story. They (from my understanding) mostly drawn in advance by the artist and the customer picks it. Theoretically a goalie and an artist would be working together with the goalie having the ideas and the artist painting it. In a case like this, if it was agreed to, it would be work for hire, which means the rights would belong to the goalie.

Technically I doubt I could create copies of the artwork for resale. But that does present an interesting question. The player cards depict a photograph of the player with all their gear on and these cards are sold by the NHL/PA. I know all gear manufacturers pay a licensing fee to have their logos displayed, I wonder how that works for goalie's masks. If I buy a picture of Quick, does the artist that painted Quick's mask see any of the money? If they don't, shouldn't they be entitled to a percentage?
Well, if one takes a picture of a street scene and sells it and there is a McDonalds, or a Toyota, or an ADIDAS logo do you think that that the artist should send some money to them?
