Living in Canada, I don't believe people choosing Weber over Quick has anything to do with nationalities. It's what a lot of people have said, elite defence is hard to come by and very necessary to win it all. I still take Quick personally because he is not just a great goalie, he is a great leader.

Not to say there aren't ridiculous Canadian biases of course. If it was Quick against most Habs or Leafs, he would be losing about 99% to 1%.

I do not trust a single thing Western Canadian hockey people say when it comes to how the game should be played or who is more valuable/better than who.
Canadians are great... until they start talking hockey. They know everything there is to know about hockey, because they were born in Canada. We, we don't know anything about hockey because we were born in sunny Southern California. Zzzzzzzzz...

And whether or not we agree on who to build a franchise around, 63% to 37% is ridiculous for a guy who has played 5 1/2 NHL seasons, has 2 Stanley Cups and 2 Olympic appearances (1 as the starter). It's not an accurate poll, that's all I'm saying.
No. Where did you get that from? i'm saying that when it comes to TSN (Canadian) readers, when they are choosing between two players in a poll that asks who they would build a team around, the players' nationality doesn't play much of a role. Of course it's an accurate poll. They asked a bunch of people who they would build a team around and the majority chose a franchise defensemen. How is it not accurate?

Again, I love Quick, but two Stanley Cups doesn't really mean much for an individual player. Trevor Lewis has two cups. So does Clifford. Cups are won by teams. The Predators aren't and have never had as a good a team as this Kings team. That's why Weber doesn't have any cups or a Conn Smythe. In order to win those trophies you have to have a Stanley Cup winning team surrounding you. Weber does not have that. I can tell you what he does have, three Norris nominations vs Quick's single Vezina nom. He has a better track record of playing at an elite level on a consistent basis. And since it bears repeating yet again. Stanley Cup winning teams NEED a franchise d-man anchoring their blue line. They do not need franchise goaltenders. A merely good goaltender can be enough.

Lewis and Clifford are 3rd and 4th liners that play 5 to 15 minutes a game. Quick is in the net for 60+ minutes. I understand what you're saying but the only point I am trying to make is, 63% to 37% is non-sense. I would love to see a pole from NHL players from these two. I would bet good money that the percentage falls within single digits. Both are elite World Class NHL players.

We all know if you take out any one of Doughty, Kopitar, or Quick, this team probably doesn't have 1 SC.

It's about which is easier to get, and which is easier to replace. There are about 5 elite Dmen you want for the next 8-10 years. Doughty, Subban, Karlsson, Weber, Pietrangelo. If you don't have one, you are going to have to draft one. They are not coming to market. Just like #1 Centers.
Goalies are the most replaceable skill position in hockey. (After #1 center, #1 D, 40 goal wing, goalie) And the least able to reproduce top numbers. For as much as I like Quick, he's replaceable. Doughty or Kopitar just aren't.

    No, I don't know that.
I know they don't sniff a Cup without Kopi or Doughty.
I think the Kings could have won a Cup with Bernier in goal.

Why do people always feel the need to say comments like this about a lot of good players. Look at Weber's team compared to the Kings. He can't do it himself. People seem to think this is Basketball where 1 or 2 players can win championships. So would you take Jones over Weber too? Cause Jones has a cup.

So to the topic, I would take Quick because the Kings have Doughty and the rest of their D is pretty darn good.
